Future Bike

Here is a test render and progress shots of the Future Bike model I have been working on the past 3 weeks.  This is an artist study I'm doing on Joshua Kinney's tutorial from Digital Tutors' website.

You can find the tutorial here if you're interested:

This tutorial was a great learning experience, as I learned a lot of interesting modeling techniques for hard surfaces.  Such as how to utilize 3ds Max's edge loop tool, mirroring, and how to create some interesting shapes through spline modeling.  I was pretty dissapointed that the tutorial forced me to use some boolean techniques (for the holes in the bar that holds the seat) and NURBS techniques (for the pedals).  But I guess that is expected of 101 tutorials.

After all that I just did some quick renders to try to figure out which type of red would be best for the bike.  So the image above is the final test render that I decided to stick with.  I will use those materials and that color scheme to move on towards the final renderings of this bike.  Below you will find progress shots and up close shots of the bike.

P.S:  I'm doing a 101 tutorial because I feel that I'm more comfortable with sculpting in 3d packages than I am in actually modeling.  So I figured covering the fundamentals would improve my growth the most.  Which is why in the upcoming weeks, you will see more basic stuff such as this and a lot more artist studies.
